Even though the conservatives did not remain silent to the new move, the nation had to allow its female athletes to participate in the London Olympics. Saudi Clerics made a big protest against female participation, stating that improper clothing and immodest movement in sports activities would destroy the purity and morality of Saudi women who are supposed to follow the Islamic rules concerning women. According to them vigorous movements would hamper the health and purity of Islamic women.
